There is lots of room so you can spread out and use things that need a bit of space like canoes, paddle boards, boogies boards etc.

Facilities at Smiths Beach include an outdoor shower and public toilets next to the car park and during the peak months the Smiths Beach Surf Life Saving Club patrols part of the beach.

The waves are larger at Smiths Beach than other places in the South West and they can be unpredictable too.
You might get a few minutes of medium sized waves and then all of a sudden a big wave will appear.

There are strong currents, slippery rocks and sand bars so basically in some areas you walk out on a steady decline and then with the next step you take there is no sand beneath your feet and you are just treading water.

Smiths Beach is beautiful, relaxing and lots of fun for older children and adults but it’s not the best place for small children to go swimming.

On the left hand side car park there is a section of beach that is a little bit more sheltered but the waves a still quite powerful.
