One of the best playgrounds in the state is the bespoke Apple Fun Park in Donnybrook. It is the biggest community owned free entry playground in Australia and is a place of pride for the locals who helped fund and build it. It opened in Easter 2008 and has play equipment for all ages and abilities, there is even a gym for parents.
The park is situated in the heart of Donnybrook, a charming country town that renowned for producing beautiful fresh fruit. This is showcased throughout the town and the park with novel fruit themed artwork and signage.
The park is spacious and well maintained with lots of different types world-class equipment.
On the left-hand side of the park, is an area designed for toddlers and pre-schoolers featuring lots of low ride-on animals, kiddie swings, climbing equipment, and slides.
Overlooking the toddler/ pre-schooler area is an outdoor gym designed with parents in mind.
For the bigger kids, there are massive four-level towers with slides, rope bridges, flying foxes, low rock climbing walls, swings and a spacenet.
There are also two 9.5 m towers that rise above the ground with a range of play equipment suitable for all ages, including slides and climbing equipment.
On the far right-hand side of the park, there is some equipment designed to meet the needs of special needs children including the very cool Neos 360; a learning panel that uses music and lights to entertain kids while developing coordination. The ground is covered in colourful soft play material and includes play equipment that is wheelchair accessible.
The park is fully fenced with self-closing gates, with lots of grass and shady trees around the borders. There are picnic tables, BBQ facilities, drink fountains, public toilets, baby change facilities, lighting towers, CTC security cameras and plenty of parking including coach parking for school and group visits.
The Apple FunPark is located on the corner of Collins and Reserve Street as is maintained by the Shire of Donnybrook Balingup.
